"The 1994 British Crime Survey produced by the Home Office estimates that there were over a quarter of a million thefts of household property involving garages during 1993. Perhaps more concerning is the fact that if a thief tries to break into your garage he is five times more likely to succeed than fail. Garage doors which are rotting, hanging off their hinges or (most importantly) only have one locking point are a particularly easy target for thieves."

With the issue of security becoming an ever increasing concern in the minds of everyone, our aim at Garador is to offer the highest levels of protection for your peace of mind. To protect the contents of your garage we now fit high security locking as standard with each of our garage doors. Garador high security locking consists of a double-latch, steel rod-operated locking mechanism and a Euro-profile cylinder lock. The double-latch provides extra strength to offer a high degree of protection against break-in attempts. In addition, the Euro-profile cylinder lock has an independent barrel to ensure that, even if the barrel is forced, the locking mechanism still remains intact.

The optional Additional Lock Kit adds even greater levels of strength and security to the standard locking on C-type and F-type steel doors. The kit comprises a two-way movement lock, steel rods and slam-shut latches fitted at the bottom of the door to increase the number of locking points from two to four. To bring existing owners of Garador garage doors up to date with current levels of security we have available a lock kit which will fit all steel doors manufactured since 1987.

Guidelines for improved garage security (FOR GUIDANCE ONLY)

Door construction: Robust construction able to withstand a human charge or kick. Anti-lever devices on side spindles (overhead trackless / canopy doors only).

Door fixing: Door frame (where required) to be made of suitable material (e.g. timber or steel) and fixed securely to the brickwork. Weatherbead or rebated stop either shaped or glued and pinned to bottom of top lintel of door frame in front of door leaf to hide gap. Clearance between door leaf and frame to be no more than 12mm per side and 15mm top and bottom (some double doors may require extra top clearance). Door gear to be fixed firmly in place with non-corroding screws.

Locking: Slam latches on minimum of two door sides. Entry by key, coded signal remote control or digital keypad only. Non-mastered lock with minimum 2,000 differs. Recessed lock barrel held firmly in place.

Windows: Panes to be made from obscure material, held securely in place by chemical or mechanical means. All other windows in garage to be obscure and fitted with laminated glass. Beading to be pinned and glued to the inside.

Electric operators: Entry by key, coded signal remote control or digital keypad only. Should incorporate the door's latching system.

Alarms: Recommended for additional security - either as part of domestic system or as stand-alone unit.

Other: Avoid storing items of value in the garage. Keep the door locked shut when not in use. For additional security an additional stout padlock and padbar or pair of deadlocks, mortised into the door frame with bolts shooting into the striker plates mounted in the edge is also recommended.
